Lynden Post Office to Move into New Dyk Building

Government selects Guy Dyk to house Lynden post office in a new brick building in the heart of the business district. Quarters, 7 1/4 by 67 9 feet with a 14 foot ceiling and full basement, will be ready by July 1 or before, with a partitioned postmaster office.

Lynden Woman Appointed State Grand Representative

Mrs Emma Schroeder of Lynden has been named Grand Representative of the Grand Chapter of Pennsylvania for Washington. The three year appointment honors her in fraternal circles and she will attend the Washington Grand Chapter convention in Spokane this year with a special reception for state and national officers. Schroeder is currently the Worthy Matron of Lynden Eastern Star Chapter.

Frank Heathers Dies After Cow Collision Blood Poisoning

Frank Heathers dies at Sumas Hospital from blood poisoning after his arm was lacerated when bumped by a cow a week earlier. The incident led to complications and his death occurred on Tuesday.

Lynden High School Graduates 27 Seniors in Ceremonial Exercise

Twenty seven Lynden seniors received diplomas at the annual graduation in the high school auditorium. R B Le Cocq presented the diplomas. Valedictorian Hilda Elder and salutatorian Gayle Walston led addresses with others including Mary Bouma and Hoyt Horton. Rev Charles Baker offered invocation and benediction. Mrs Jane Colby Spratley and Don Gray sang and played. Class motto Just in Commencement appeared in colors above the platform.

Lynden Observes Its Memorial Day Observances

Lynden closed its stores for Memorial Day and held a patriotic program at the high school. Graves were decorated and a program featured prayers, addresses, songs, recitations, violin solos, and student performances by Lyndon Christian and grade school students.

Lynden Car Travels Six Miles With No Gas Tank

Taylor Brothers of Lynden own a six cylinder car that ran six miles home after its gasoline tank dropped off on Hannegan Road. C. E. Whited joined the search, and the missing tank was found along the road.

Lynden Shoes May Hold World Record

The Lynden pair of shoes, claimed to have world record long life, were shown at repair shop by C. J. Carlson who bought them thirty five years ago in Sweden for 3.50. Carlson says ten cents a year has covered maintenance so far and the shoes remain in excellent condition with hand sewn soles and high quality leather.

The Klatawa Club sponsors a benefit dance for the baseball team Friday evening, June 10, at the I. O. O. F. Hall. Plans include many fine features, promising one of the season’s best affairs.

Depot Road paving finished for July 1 opening

The Depot Road paving, first unit of the Lynden Sumas improvement, was completed Saturday night by contractors. It is expected the road will be open to traffic by July 1.

Ruth Bauman Dies at 17 From Meningitis

Ruth Bauman, daughter of Mr and Mrs A A Bauman, died suddenly at home from spinal meningitis. Born February 14 1904 in Raymond Minnesota she was 17 years old. She planned to graduate Thursday and was active in athletics with high school honors. Survived by her parents and sisters Marie Sadie and Clara.

Lynden Taxpayers Urged to Pay Last Half of Income Tax

Taxpayers must pay the second federal income tax installment by June 15. The collector urges paying during the first week of June if possible and notes payments must be in his office by June 15 to avoid penalties. Credit depends on the account number on the tax bill and remittance. If the bill is lost, send the identifying number from a March payment with the remittance.

Lynden voters face seven mill school levy Saturday

Lynden residents vote on an extra seven mill school levy to fund next year’s operations. Even with approval taxes drop three mills from last year due to board economies. Contingent plans include outside tuition or forming a union high school district with nearby towns to maintain the high school.

The notice urges garden and lawn sprinklers to pay their water use bill at Knapp's Furniture Store before the season. Regular water users pay 5 and summer-only users pay 10.
