Lynden residents report Robert Van Mersbergen and Henry Stap departed December 12 for France with the national army. No word has arrived yet but it is believed they are now on French soil. Other Lynden youths’ service status remains unknown. Mrs. Zysset will be away a few weeks due to her mother’s illness after an operation at St Luke's hospital. George Frick Jr plans to enter Belingham State Normal School next semester. Melhine returned from Mt. Vernon and may come before New Years, delayed by floods. The Study Club met at Mrs. Beckes’s home to begin India studies after the holidays. Miss Edna McKinnon is ill this week.

Old timer says Nooksack river was higher 34 years ago
