The Christmas Red Cross drive ends with about five hundred members in Lynden and nearby areas. Lynden Seventh Grade led by Miss Edna MacKinnon recruited many, with 335 named in Lynden and others sent to Miss Everett. campaign totals exceed five hundred. Ed Edson, Lyndon campaign chair, lists numerous donors including George Alton and J H Bailey among many others.

An estimated 1,000,000 qualified men are in Class 1, with 700,000 more expected annually after extending the register to those reaching 21 since last June 5. River deserts new Marietta bridge near Whatcom County
The Nooksack river at Marietta has shifted from its old channel to a distant course beneath the new bridge after a massive log jam from this week’s flood. Despite warnings, county commissioners believed the river would stay put and keep to the new bridge alignment.

Lynden Residents Face New War Income Tax

Two Burned in Gasoline Explosions During Blackout
In Lynden two residents were burned while electricity was off as people relied on oil stoves and lamps. Mrs C B Gilbert suffered severe burns when an oil can exploded while lighting a fire and saved her baby before flames took hold. Ira Stauffer burned on face and hands when a gasoline lamp exploded in his hen house. He rolled in water to extinguish flames and returned to finish dousing the building. The Rev KE Breen left Wednesday for Camp Lewis.
