Lynden to Aid Tax Payers With 1920 Returns

Collector Arthur B. Culmer will visit Lynden to assist residents in filing 1920 income tax returns. Filing runs January 1 to March 15. Forms will be mailed to those who filed last year. exemptions and rates are outlined, with four installment payment options and required minimum incomes for filing.

Lynden Boy Transferred to U S S Beaver in New York

Charles Edmund Hodgeman of Lynden was moved from the Receiving Ship in New York to the U S S Beaver. The transfer was confirmed today by Commander C C Krakow of the U S Navy.

The Klatawa Club elected officers at a Wednesday meeting held at the home of Miss Ada Baldwin. President is Ada Baldwin, Secretary-Treasurer Edith Jacobson, Corresponding Secretary Martha Knittle, and Alma Ecker named as a other officer.

Bonus Coming For Lynden Service Men

In Lynden the state plans to distribute war service bonuses within a month. A test-case decision upheld the bonus with $15 per month of wartime service. The ruling hinges on public purpose and state funds. Blanks will be sent to veterans, with payments by the state auditor after verification.

The American History class received Hart's Formation of the Union copies for regular work. Albert Harlander has withdrawn from the Sophomore Class. First and second team boys will play Ferndale next Thursday. Manual Training adds machinery to ease next semester work. Farm Carpentry requires each pupil to plan a complete house blueprinted. A model house is under construction on Mr. Landaal’s premises. Mr. Rockey’s chemistry classes gain new laboratory apparatus. Semester exams will be held Thursday and Friday next week.

Death Of Mrs. Mary Brasell In Vancouver

Mrs. Mary Brasell died December 31 in Vancouver at her home on 158th avenue west. Funeral is set for Wednesday at 2 pm from Nunn & Thompson's chapel with Rev. O. M. Sanford officiating. Interment will be in Mountain View Odd Fellows plot. She was born in Minnesota thirty six years ago and lived in Vancouver eleven years. Survived by husband Robert Brasell two sons one daughter her mother Mrs. W. W. Palmer of Lynden Wash sister Mrs. J. R. Langdale of Vancouver and brothers W. G. Satterthwaite of Aldergrove and J. S. Satterthwaite of Lynden Wash.

Klatawa Christmas Tree Hosted by Mrs Lida Benjamin

Mrs Lida Benjamin of Henry Street Bellingham hosted the Klatawa Christmas tree this year with seasonal decorations throughout the house and a gift laden tree. After gifts were distributed a dinner was served. Misses Hattie Nellie and Annie Bovendam and Mr James Bovendam went to Seattle last week to visit their uncle and aunt. A son was born Friday to Mr and Mrs E C Good.

New Year Concert by Lynden Choral Society Delights Audience

The Lynden Choral Society presented a pleasing New Year’s Eve program at the First Christian Reformed Church directed by Louis A. Helder with Adrian Breen as organist. Soloists Johanna and Paul Breen Ernestine Zweegman Marie Zweegman and Tena Van der Griend showcased strong vocal talents along with mixed and male quartets. The audience enjoyed choruses duets and solos including Oh How Lovely Is Zion and The Song of Triumph.

Peoples State Bank Opens In Lynden Tomorrow

The Peoples State Bank of Lynden begins operations tomorrow in temporary quarters at the R L Averill jewelry store. The $40,000 capitalization is held by sixty local residents. De Jong Car In Bad Accident On Hannegan River Bridge

Miss Marie De Jong driving a Chalmers toward Bellingham narrowly avoided a wreck on the Hannegan river bridge Friday. To avoid a collision she hit the railing. her mother Mrs De Jong was thrown aside breaking glasses and suffering a long cut beneath the eye. Two wheels were knocked off the car.

Lyceum Quartet Delights Lynden Audience

Lynden’s lyceum fans applauded the De Mille quartet Thursday at the high school. The program featured quartets and solos by each member. The advertised pianist, a woman, turned out to be a man and displayed strong piano skill.

C M Creamer resigns his position as head of the Lynden Cannery, which he managed for H A Baker. He had led the cannery since its takeover and was a steady advocate for improving berry and small fruit industry conditions, earning many friends in the community.

W H Waples chairs Lynden district relief for sixty starving children in Central and Eastern Europe under the European Relief Council led by Herbert Hoover. Ten dollars per child funds food clothing and shelter for winter with all admin costs privately covered. A Lyden Choral Society concert raised 128 dollars as the campaign began.
