The Sophomore Class at Lynden High School led a Christmas Red Cross Roll Call yielding 420 new members in Lynden. Final figures show strong home service interest, with a long list of enrollees including Mrs. L. A. Jones, George Ramerman, C. E. Hitchcock, Mrs. W. F. De Jonge, and many others.
Residents across the Wiser Lake area share Thanksgiving visits with relatives in Hazel Seattle Kent and Bellingham. Daughters of Dorcas plan a bazaar at Wiser Lake Hall with a supper 6 to 8 PM. Families from Dahlquist Burgess Rosenhall and other households are noted visiting or hosting for the holiday.
The Lynden high lyceum program features the McAllister Trio presenting operatic airs in costume with vocal piano cello numbers and dramatic readings. Kathleen McAllister is praised for a distinctive voice and experience. DeHRoss McAllister Tenor and Miss Irma Marie Jordan Cellist bring notable artistry to the show.
D J Milan a former Lynden resident died Wednesday at a Seattle hospital per telegrams received in Lynden yesterday.
A strong Friday gale toppled a gate onto C N Henderson injuring his collarbone. Windows and fences were damaged. a chicken house, a silo, and cemetery fencing also suffered. Lynden residents buy Christmas Seals to fund tuberculosis relief and a local clinic.
Meenderinck earns high awards for his Jersey herd at the Portland Livestock Show with 300 head competing. Prizes include aged bull fourth, four year old cow seventh, two year old heifer ninth, yearling heifer sixth, herd prize tenth, and product of dam tenth. The aged bull, bought from Judge Hardin, previously won grand champion at Whatcom County Fair, and his aged cow also claimed champion honors there.
The Christian Reformed Church held its annual election of officers. Elders named Gerrit Vander Griend J. Gunst H. J. Kok. Deacons named B. Oldemeyer H. Bierlink A. J. Otter H. Terpsma. A $2000 appropriation was set for the Second Christian Reformed Church.
Ten year old Marshall Bayes fell from a ladder last Friday and sustained a broken collarbone. The incident occurred at his home and prompted medical evaluation.
Petition to handle Lynden cemetery moves slowly as lot owners weigh grounds upkeep. If enough sign, a cemetery association will be formed. Signed at City Drug Store and Lynden State Bank. Names enrolled include Charles Richbaw John C Breckenridge and others.
The Ladies' Aid of the Christian Reformed Church will hold a sale Monday evening at the consistory rooms of the church.
The steelhead season officially opened in Lynden with local fishermen active. Dr. C. H. McLeod landed an eight pound steelhead and hooked another. John Bannick reported an eight and a twelve pounder, totaling twenty seven pounds with a cutthroat river trout and a dolly varden.
A meeting to establish a Lynden district Farm Bureau is set for Wednesday at 8 pm in Lynden High School. County Agent H. B. Carroll Jr will preside with urging turnout from farmers and those active in farm improvements.
The Sumas High School basketball team will play in Lynden Saturday night for the first school game of the season. Sumas has a fast team and an interesting contest is assured. A fast preliminary is being arranged.
Lynden High School basketball will travel to Laurel Friday night to face Meridian in a pair of games. Meridian has a strong, peppy squad this year and fans are promised two competitive tussles.
The Second Christian Reformed Church has named Dr. H. Meeter as its minister, signaling a leadership change for the congregation.
Lynden voters face a peaceful election with three councilmen and a treasurer to be chosen. At City Hall caucus mayor Edson presiding, Gerrit Van Leeuwen Ed Knapp and J P Boer renominated for two year council terms. J T Zyistra renominated for city treasurer. Nominees appear on the Citizen's Ticket. Polls open from 9 a m to 5 p m Tuesday.
Lynden Leaguers defeat Bloedel- Donovan 26 to 11 and Company E 38 to 12 in Whatcom County Basketball League play. Crowd sizes large. defense key in first game, strong Lynden offense in the second. Next game set with the Y M C A in Bellingham on Wednesday, December. League standings are listed to date.
C. E. Whited has purchased the Palace Hotel from Ernest Dean and will take over in March. He plans new equipment and furnishings to modernize the establishment and will stay active in real estate in Bellingham with Whited and Benedict at 411 West Holly Street while continuing to reside in Lynden.
Wiser Lake hall hosted a large Thanksgiving reunion for several families. Attendees included Mr. and Mrs. Albert Engdahl and children, Mr. and Mrs. Wes ley Dorr and two children, and many others from Burling ton, Bellingham, Sumas, Oklahoma, Everett, Colville, Laurel, and more. All enjoyed a bounteous Thanksgiving dinner.
J J Smalley died at his Lynden home after a long illness. He was 72, a Civil War veteran and printer by trade. Funeral services were held Sunday at Knapp Funeral Parlors. he was born in West Orange New Jersey and spent much of his life in Illinois. He is survived by daughter Miss Margueritte Smalley of Lynden.
