Newfoundland Post Office issues special transatlantic air stamps

Newfoundland issues two stamp types for the Transatlantic Air Post service. A 15 cent Handley Page surcharge reads Transatlantic Air Post 1919, $1, while the Sopwith Martinsyde issue remains the 3 cent Caribou Head design used on Hawker and Grieve mail. A rare First Transatlantic Air Post May 1919 print, with April misprint, has only 200 specimens. The Bureau of Printing and Engraving recycles perforation matter into marketable disks, with huge production volumes reported.

The first singing of the Marseillaise is attributed to Mayor Dietrich's house at Place Broglie Strasbourg No 4 not No 2. A 1739 sale contract places the Dietrich house between Hotel des Nobles de Stein and Manger’s hotel, identifying Nos 3 and 5, thus confirming No 4 as the mayoral residence.
