The Lynden Community Club meets Monday at the High School to discuss paving a road to Sumas, park purchase, and school lunch funding. Board action hinges on new county commissioners, with spring action anticipated.
Northwood residents Mr L D Pangborn and Miss Olive Pangborn attended Chautauqua in Bellingham last week. The Willing Workers plan a meeting August 11 at Mrs Hamilton’s home. John Blank, hurt while hunting, is confined to bed and convalescing. Alex Holmes of Blaine visits at daughter Ed Thomas’s home. The Depp family of Custer and Hazel Hatch of Seattle with Hazel White of Saskatchewan visited George Gustin’s home. Andrew Swanson and Strandell guests at Mrs Swanson’s mother Mrs George Rothfuss’s home. Herman Harvey and Homer Kelley with Roy Riddle of Bellingham visited Herman Harvey. Knittle and Charles Burnham visited Bel lingham on business. Howard Worthen and wife spent the week at George Worthen’s Lynden home and attended Chautauqua.
County Agent H B Carroll urges early preparation for the Whatcom County Fair set for the week of September 28 to October 2. The Fair Board has contracted for a new Poultry Barn and another Dairy Cattle Barn. He stresses grooming cattle daily, improving horns and hoofs, and increasing dairy breed representation to fill the new barn, while expanding grain exhibits and other farm products to credit the county. Mr and Mrs Jack Kauffman and daughter returned from a Yakima trip.
John Blank was helping load hay when a 500 pound load dropped on his head. He was shaken but not seriously injured and received medical check.
Lynden faces garden watering delays as the city awaits three new water pumps ordered March 22 with delivery by July 1. Pumps would raise capacity from 250 to 450 gallons per minute, but slow freights and recent leaks reduce supply.
The Automobile Club of Western Washington supports Referendum No. 1 to raise 30 million dollars by bonds issued for a six year program to build a 1500 mile statewide trunkline highway system. Bonds mature 1941 and pay interest not over five percent, with state highwayboard oversight.
The Lynden baseball team hosts the Twilight League's strong Custer squad at Hawley's Park Friday at six o'clock after a Chautauqua break. Lynden seeks revenge after a Custer win on their grounds last month with Rockey and Anderson as battery, supported by a sturdy lineup.

Mark Whipple this week purchased the Grove shoe repair shop adjoining Lynden’s post office. J W Grove will leave Lynden as a result of the sale.
A large gathering attended the funeral Thursday at Knapp's Parlors for Mrs Frances Jess who died at her home on Wednesday July 28. The Rev W O Benadom officiated. Born September 24 1866 in Bohemia she married John Jess in Nebraska and came west in 1901. She leaves a sister a son and four daughters and four step children.
J Slatemaker of Lynden reports his two year old Holstein heifer bred calves that arrive within six days apart. One robust calf born first followed by a second six days later, illustrating a record pace in census boosting.
A weekly series at Miller's Grove near the County Home North Bellingham will present diverse topics every Sunday this fall. Meetings run 11 am speaking, 12 basket dinner, 1 20 pm talks and 5 pm ball game with storm contingency in a hall.

Dan McLeod sells his 40 acre farm this week to Erick Swenson of Chicago for 7000 dollars. McLeod will move at once to Yakima to make his home.
A large family gathering marked Mr and Mrs Haveman s 45th anniversary on Sunday with most children present except one son in Michigan The Havemans wed in 1875 and Ingvald Knutzen underwent an appendicitis operation in Bellingham on Sunday.
Lynden residents must number their buildings by August 15 under the city ordinance. The original July 1 deadline was extended to allow more time, with the water superintendent authorized to affix numbers if owners fail to do so and to charge the cost to the property. Street signs naming Lynden streets will be installed immediately.
Marinus Nymeyer, son of R B Nymeyer, cut his hand severely on a piece of glass Wednesday. The injury was reported by the family and described as serious. Also noted, Ernest Reddig, who recently broke his arm, required another operation at Portland this week.
M Honcoop fell from the second story of his barn Tuesday slipping down a 20 foot chute. He struck the concrete floor and was badly shaken up.
County Commissioner J. B. McMillan says the state and county tax levy will fall substantially this year due to higher assessed values. The county board of equalization, now in session for three weeks, will hear appeals and adjust assessments. The 1 percent assessment law boosts real estate values and likely increases overall county figures, while city totals may reach 15 to 16 million dollars.
George True Civil War veteran and Lynden district pioneer died Tuesday morning at his Fifth Street home after a brief illness. Born November 13 1845 in Edgewood Iowa he served in the Fourth Iowa Cavalry and moved west in 1880 before settling in Lynden in 1889. He is survived by his widow two sons Charles of Bellingham and Le Roy of Everett. Funeral services were held at his residence and Lynden Cemetery conducted by Rev. E C Downing.
More than one hundred residents sign to back Lynden Chautauqua for 1921 with Ellison-White to decide. Lynden seeks 700 season tickets, higher than this year, while local guarantors propose a similar contract with a 25 cent price increase across the circuit.
The Lynden W. C. T. U. will meet Thursday July 12 with Mrs M L Jackman for the annual election of officers and other business of importance. All members urged to attend.
A. G. Stierlin purchased a new Dodge Touring Car this week from Miller and Leek of Everson, agents for the Lynden territory. Frank Walsh, formerly of Lynden, now heads sales in the Lynden area.
