County Agent Urges Early Prep for Whatcom County Fair

County Agent H B Carroll urges early preparation for the Whatcom County Fair set for the week of September 28 to October 2. The Fair Board has contracted for a new Poultry Barn and another Dairy Cattle Barn. He stresses grooming cattle daily, improving horns and hoofs, and increasing dairy breed representation to fill the new barn, while expanding grain exhibits and other farm products to credit the county. Mr and Mrs Jack Kauffman and daughter returned from a Yakima trip.

Funeral Services Held for Mrs Frances Jess

A large gathering attended the funeral Thursday at Knapp's Parlors for Mrs Frances Jess who died at her home on Wednesday July 28. The Rev W O Benadom officiated. Born September 24 1866 in Bohemia she married John Jess in Nebraska and came west in 1901. She leaves a sister a son and four daughters and four step children.

Lynden to Complete Street Numbering by August 15

Lynden residents must number their buildings by August 15 under the city ordinance. The original July 1 deadline was extended to allow more time, with the water superintendent authorized to affix numbers if owners fail to do so and to charge the cost to the property. Street signs naming Lynden streets will be installed immediately.

Marinus Nymeyer Cuts Hand on Glass

Marinus Nymeyer, son of R B Nymeyer, cut his hand severely on a piece of glass Wednesday. The injury was reported by the family and described as serious. Also noted, Ernest Reddig, who recently broke his arm, required another operation at Portland this week.

Man Falls 20 Foot From Barn Chute

M Honcoop fell from the second story of his barn Tuesday slipping down a 20 foot chute. He struck the concrete floor and was badly shaken up.

County Levy to Drop as Valuations Rise

County Commissioner J. B. McMillan says the state and county tax levy will fall substantially this year due to higher assessed values. The county board of equalization, now in session for three weeks, will hear appeals and adjust assessments. The 1 percent assessment law boosts real estate values and likely increases overall county figures, while city totals may reach 15 to 16 million dollars.

George True passes away at seventy five in Lynden

George True Civil War veteran and Lynden district pioneer died Tuesday morning at his Fifth Street home after a brief illness. Born November 13 1845 in Edgewood Iowa he served in the Fourth Iowa Cavalry and moved west in 1880 before settling in Lynden in 1889. He is survived by his widow two sons Charles of Bellingham and Le Roy of Everett. Funeral services were held at his residence and Lynden Cemetery conducted by Rev. E C Downing.
