Second Rider Injured in Hit and Run Fatality at Clovis Road

Teenager Johnny Ramos died from a broken neck and brain concussion after a hit and run struck him and 15 year old Joe Chavez as they rode a bicycle toward a drive-in. Witnesses described a 1955 or 1956 orange and white Mercury leaving the scene with lights off. Ambulance took Chavez to Methodist Hospital in critical condition. both families face tragedy as investigators search for the driver.

Fire Demolishes Store In Snyder

A late evening blaze in Snyder destroyed a brick storefront in the day business district. Teens Ronnie Chauncey and Larry Plumlee spotted the fire about 11:15 p.m. The cause was not immediately determined but suspected to stem from faulty rear wiring.

Woman, 84, Slain in Big Spring Home

The 84 year old mother in law to the Big Spring mayor was found murdered in her blood covered home. Chief Jay Banks reported a 16 year old Negro boy confessed to stabbing Martha Hathcock and a doctor noted possible rape. A threatening note in obscene language was found beneath the body.

Two Planes In Crashes Across Regions Leave Dozens Feared Dead

Sixteen crewmen and passengers were feared dead in two separate crashes. A Navy antisubmarine patrol plane ditched off Bermuda with three survivors from a ten man crew.
