Murder charge filed in hit and run death of teen rider
A 29-year-old Lubbock welder is jailed as a suspect in a Saturday night hit-and-run that killed 17-year-old Johnny Ramos and critically injured his companion Joe Chavez. George Upchurch was identified by police after a charcoal and orange 1956 car linked to his brother was found in the 2500 block of Auburn Street. Investigators said the vehicle, unaltered with bloodstains, struck the boys as they rode along Clovis Road. Upchurch admitted to memory of a hit but not full details. 71 Survive Air Mishap at Logan Airport Boston
An American Airlines jet skidded off a 7,500 foot runway into six feet of water in thick fog at Logan International Airport. All 71 aboard were rescued by pleasure boats. one rescuer died of a heart seizure as he reached the jet. Injuries included a back injury to a woman, head and ankle injuries to a stewardess, and finger cuts to the pilot. The Thunderbirds cargo plane crashed during a Friendship Day air show, killing three, injuring several, and ending the event early.

Lovington Pair Killed in Traffic Crash Near Jolly
A Lovington New Mexico woman Sadie Moore 32 and her 15 year old daughter Rita Fae Moore were killed in a Sunday crash on US 287 two miles east of Jolly. Moore's husband Enoch Sylvester Moore 57 and son Robert 12 were treated at Clay County Hospital. In the other vehicle Claud Randy Harrison 24 Fort Worth and J R Pugh unnamed address were treated. the two cars collided when Harrison’s car swerved into the Moore vehicle. Bodies taken to Hawkins Funeral Home. The eruption of Kilauea stopped after two days forcing evacuations of three villages on Hawaii Island. No lava reached the villages.
