Witness in Carlsbad murder trial shot near cafe

James Williams, the chief witness in the Carlsbad baker Terry Willie Seaton murder trial, was shot in the back Sunday near a small cafe. He was listed in satisfactory condition at Providence Memorial Hospital in El Paso after emergency care at Carlsbad Regional Medical Center. Eddy County Sheriff Tom Granger tied the shooting to Williams’s testimony, noting he had been targeted before. Williams could not identify a suspect and said he did not know where or when the shooting occurred. The Seaton case had led to a life sentence at Santa Fe Penitentiary for Seaton.
