Plane Plunges in Utah Bird Collision Forces Two Airmen to Eject
Reese Air Force Base instructors Capt. Charles J. Whitsett and Capt. Sheldon L. Brown escaped injury after their T-38 collided with a flock of birds near Ogden Utah during a training flight from Hill Air Force Base. The jet crashed six miles south of the base at about 2 p.m. Both officers were under medical evaluation. A prior bird strike near Reese killed Capt. Harry D. Logan, flight commander of the 3501st Pilot Training Squadron, whose T-37 hit a Sandhill Crane near Topeka. Logan's co pilot Lt. John D. Peterson landed the aircraft.
