Texas Highways Commission backs Avenue Q Indiana project in Lubbock
The Texas Highway Commission gave a receptive hearing to requests for construction on Avenue Q and Indiana Avenue in Lubbock and voiced support for an interstate route through the city. An early decision was promised on Avenue Q and Indiana Avenue, with study planned on two additional proposals as Mayor Rogers pushed for financing of a 2.4 million Indiana Avenue extension across the Texas Tech campus and a 110.00 widening of Avenue Q between Clovis Road and 22nd Street. The panel also considered a route along U.S. Highway 87 to Big Spring and eyed an alternative southeastward interstate path from Lubbock toward Sweetwater.

Blinding thunderstorms roared across Lubbock and surrounding South Plains bringing up to 1.50 inches of rain in a 20 minute span and hail the size of mothballs. Six bids for the Lubbock National Bank Court Place office tower were opened with W G McAlllan Construction Co of Lubbock submitting the apparent low base bid of 2 017 700. Other bids ranged from 2 012 000 to 2 224 000. Electrical and mechanical bids were opened later, and demolition of the Caprock Hotel is being handled by Vile Construction Co. with no site plans announced yet. Construction is set to begin soon with a 540 day completion target.
