Stepped-Up Plan Seen For Flights

Apollo 10 is slated for 1969 to fly within nine miles of the moon and could attempt a lunar landing. Commander Thomas Stafford, lunar module pilot Eugene Cernan, and command module pilot John Young are named as the prime crew. The mission may shift from a simulated landing to an actual lunar touch down, with potential lunar orbit maneuvers and a split crew serving on the landing craft.

In a federal courtroom ceremony, a man and woman formerly under East German rule joined 15 others as new U.S. citizens. Lung Transplant Patient Dies in Houston

Walter Charles Carey, 43, of Carmel New York, who received a left lung in a multi organ transplant less than a week earlier, died Wednesday night at St Luke's Hospital Houston. The donor was a 21 year old New Jersey woman who died from a brain hemorrhage. Her kidneys were donated to two Texas men.

San Francisco State College Closes Indefinitely After Violence

San Francisco State College shut down indefinitely following a week of clashes between police and students. President Robert Smith said classes suspended until the campus can reopen on a more rational basis after riot police charged a rock throwing crowd of around 300 students.

State Roads Hearing Set in Lubbock at City Hall

The Texas State Highway Commission will hold public hearings at Lubbock City Hall at 8:00 p.m. today to discuss highway matters. Mayor W. D. Rogers Jr notes the session will address several Lubbock projects including Avenue Q widening, a grade separation for Indiana Avenue near Texas Tech, Loop 289, and Tohoka Highway intersections. Commission members from Waco Carrizo Springs and Fort Worth, plus state officials, will attend, with a Chamber of Commerce dinner sponsored at the Lubbock Country Club.
