An unknown rookie from Overland Park Kansas City suburb won the Indianapolis 500 in a tow truck at 8 15 a m CDT after three days of rain delays. Ronnie Brees of Greenville Indiana finished third in a white wrecking truck with a blue boom as tow trucks and rescue vehicles circled the track during the wet event. Mattivi averaged about 60 mph burning miles per gallon as the unlikely winner crossed the line.
