A Negro mob overpowered a white policeman and freed a prisoner in Manhattan. An ice pick wounded a Puerto Rican grocer aiding the officer. At Lake Stavasu California a 16 foot inboard with three skiers and a 1314 foot outboard with five collided after dark. Ticket agent John Blaney and stewardess Nancy Van Horne were missing and presumed dead. Stewardess Sandra Starmer in fair condition. Coast Guard and San Bernardino County divers searched for bodies overnight.
President Johnson urged a national effort to provide meaningful work or training for about 25 000 trainees this summer and asked governors mayors employers unions churches and colleges to help. He said one trainee per 100 employees should be sought across federal projects and noted many youths seek temporary summer jobs to return to school.

Marvin Shurbet, could decide if a Lubbock area farmer may claim a water depletion tax deduction similar to oil depletion. Shurbet seeks 333 dollars for 1959 irrigation deductions, with potential millions in refunds if favorable.
