Fire at Statler-Hilton Hotel in Detroit prompts large evacuation

More than 1,000 people including Charles S. Mott and Frederic G. Donner escaped from the Statler-Hilton in Detroit as a blaze trapped in a service elevator shaft. Firemen reported no deaths, eight were overcome, and damage reached nearly 250000.
