Lubbock Trustees Adopt Budget With Possible Local Tax Increase

Lubbock school trustees tentatively approved a 1972 budget of $23.7 million, keeping the teacher salary schedule intact and signaling a likely five cent local tax increase. The current tax rate is $1.75 per $100, with final levies and rate decisions due before August. Local hike depends on tax rolls and federal wage hour actions, with state-required teacher salary costs over $300,000 the equivalent of five to six cents per penny of tax revenue.
