Student Protests and Teacher Strike Shut Maryland, Colleges
Demonstrations spread from colleges to high schools as Columbia University in New York and Stony Brook react. Police moved on sit-ins while 700-plus Columbia students faced trespass charges. A 12 hour sit in in Indiana and suspensions for 1400 Cincinnati pupils followed. In Carroll County Maryland more than 500 of 700 public schoolteachers struck closing all 26 schools.
