Connally Plans Urgent TV Appeal Across Texas

Dunbar Struggs Integration Stepup Gets Board Okay

The Lubbock board of trustees approved a plan to integrate Dunbar High and Struggs Junior High next year without shifting the neighborhood school concept. It would place 26 Anglo American and 10 Mexican American students in Dunbar with 569 Negroes, and 43 Anglo American and 36 Mexican American students in Struggs with 405 Negroes. Superintendent Nat Williams will notify HEW and seek a meeting with Dallas HEW officials to discuss compliance with the Civil Rights Act and avoid a full investigation next month.

Eisenhower Suffered Mild Heart Attack In California

Former President Dwight D. Eisenhower has had a mild myocardial infarction at March Air Force Base California and will be hospitalized for several weeks. He was brought in with chest pains and may be transferred to Walter Reed Army Hospital in Washington when stabilized.

Absentee Voting Ends With Bang in Lubbock County

Absentee balloting in Saturdays primary elections closed with a boom as the Lubbock County Clerk’s office reported 357 votes on Tuesday, bringing the total to 975 ballots, a record high over 1964’s 540. County officials cautioned the final tally was not yet official. Other South Plains counties also reported heavy ballots.

Oil Pioneer Frank Pickerell Honored in Permian Basin

In Midland a large gathering of oil men and business leaders honored Frank T. Pickerell, recognizing his role in establishing West Texas oil in Reagan County and his part in the Santa Rita No. 1 discovery furthering the Big Lake field. The event, by the Permian Basin Petroleum Museum, Library and Hall of Fame, also inducted Pickerell as the first elected member.
