U S spokesmen said about 1 200 North Vietnamese troops marching south of the DMZ near Dong Ha were met by Allied forces in a five hour fight that left 130 enemy dead. In the A Shaw Valley U S Air Cavalry carried out search and destroy missions around four outposts. Overall 469 Communists were reported killed in the day across Vietnam. South Vietnamese infantrymen aided the Dong Ha action. Four Marines died and 22 wounded. South Vietnamese casualties were light. Also two South Korean soldiers were killed and two wounded in a North Korean attack on the eastern front.
