Ancient debt hits Lubbock schools from 27 years late

A 1941 overdue grocery bill of 15.22 dollars mailed from Abilene reached Lubbock's district on April Fool's Day, carried to superintendent Nat Williams and business manager Linus Wright. The envelope, found during post office wall remodeling, notes a hole caused the delay and records since then are incomplete.

Trustees Cautious On Rights Clash Over Lubbock Schools

Lubbock trustees met Friday to discuss options from changing school boundaries to a wait and see stance as a federal civil rights on site review looms over alleged de facto segregation. Fires Rage Through Three Chicago Stores On State Street

Rapid fires broke out in Carson Pirie Scott Montgomery Ward and Wieboldt’s along State Street triggering a massive evacuation and arson probe.
