Federal Judge John R. Brown granted stay of execution for Carolyn Lima and Leslie Ashley just hours before their planned death for the torch murder of Fredtones in Houston. Lima welcomed the delay saying God is with me as chaplains notified them in the death chamber.

Dead Man's Data Found in Burdett Case

Police linked new clues in the murder of Robert O. Burdett Jr whose body was found near Quakers Ave and 82nd St. A wallet discovered hours later contained only personal papers and photos. Detectives noted possible robbery but could not confirm motive as Burdett was last seen March 13 in a nightclub and found dead at 2 a.m. near 82nd St.

Fire kills six in downtown blast and hotel blaze

At a cleaning plant explosion on the downtown fringe six were killed and 18 injured. In Boston a fire at the Sherry Biltmore Hotel claimed four lives. Bystander James Flanary described the blast as huge with debris flying. The plant blast occurred at 11 06 a m as workers inside.
