Colby Resigns as Aviation Chief for Palm Springs Move

Edward L. Colby, longtime director of aviation at West Texas Air Terminal, resigns to take a similar post with Palm Springs California. His effective date is July 26 with a start August 1, after confirmation by Palm Springs city manager Frank Aleshire. Colby, praised as one of the real old pros, led airport expansion efforts since 1948 with no local tax support and oversees rapid runway repairs and a master plan study for a major expansion.

Cold Front to Cut Texas Heat Sunday in Panhandle South Plains

A strong Rocky Mountain cold front expected to move into the Panhandle and South Plains promises relief from 100 plus degree heat. Hijacked Plane Flies to Havana From Florida Keys

A Southeast Airlines DC3 with 15 passengers and three crew was hijacked over the Florida Keys and forced to Havana. Pilot George Prellezo radioed the FAA from Key West changing course. The aircraft landed safely at a Cuban airport about an hour later. The Cuban press said the pilot was a deserter and would be held for trial. The hijacker was described as an American.

Fugitive Leopard Captured After Freeway Chase
