In Clarkston Washington a mother Patricia Herndon and her three children were swept away when their pickup plunged into the Snake River Sunday night. Rescued was 1 month old Kathy Herndon, while 3-year-old Steven was recovered dead and 6-year-old Christine is presumed drowned. Eyewitnesses including Jack Foster battled the river as bystanders shouted pleas for the babies. Police say the truck went off the road and dropped about 20 feet into the river.
