Dr. Glenn F. E. Barnett takes over as executive vice president and dean of the School of Education at Texas Tech. He leaves the University of Colorado where he was vice president for student affairs. Barnett fills the vacancy left by Dr. William M. Pearce, who became president of Texas Wesleyan College in February.

Mrs. Vihlen flies to the Caribbean to glimpse her husband Hugo Vihlen as he nears the finish of a trans Atlantic voyage in a six foot amphibious craft off the north coast of Cuba. A news crew reports he stood up waved and sent a flare as the craft circled. 225 miles southeast of Miami they met during a rain squall.
Tahlequah Oklahoma police report a 2-year old student Harold James Pope of Tulsa was fatally hurt and placed in a car trunk after stopping to aid two stranded motorists. Two teen twin sisters were hurt and later treated. two men Dale McDonald and Delbert Hopper were charged with serious burglary and related offenses.
London BOAC faces cancellation of 21 more flights as BALPA pilots strike enters second day. Without a settlement by tonight 36 of 47 aircraft could be grounded. the walkout follows a breakdown in pay talks. The dispute, over a new wage system, could cost the airline around 840000 dollars daily.
