Rider for Nature Ends Across US Reach With Hunger Strike
Billy Marks, 28, who began a 17 year horseback trek across the United States from San Diego in 1976, stalls at the Chesapeake Bay Bridge near Skidmore Maryland after authorities refuse his request to ride his two horses across. He camps two miles west of the bridge and vows to stay hungry until crossing is allowed, arguing the horses can cope with traffic as he reaches the final stretch of his ride. Marks says he quit his Newark environmental analyst job and sold his belongings to pursue the journey.
