Weather report notes a slight chance of nighttime thunderstorms today through Wednesday. Hot with high temperatures near 92 and a low overnight around the upper 60s to 70s.
Weather outlook shows above normal temperatures east of the divide with near normal Gulf and Atlantic regions and Great Lakes. Below normal in the Northwest. Rainfall above median in the Northwest southern Plateau and from the upper Mississippi Valley to the Great Lakes and New England along much of the southeast coast. Elsewhere rainfall below median.
The House opens a fight with President Carter over a 10.2 billion public works bill containing 169.7 million for 17 of 18 water projects Carter wants scrapped. Derrick Conte amend to delete 17 projects eyed. Auburn Dam kept. Senate action expected to trim or restore funds as conference nears.
Harrisburg Ill UPI The Shawnee National Forest the only national forest in Illinois features colorful recreation areas with campgrounds such as Grapevine Trail Turkey Bayou and Steamboat Hill plus Buttermilk Hill and Duck Bay picnic areas and the Garden of the Gods observation site.
The Voting Rights Act case involving Hereford ISD expands with Westheimer ISD seeking to join and consolidate the suits. Judge Noel may admit Westheimer to raise seven plaintiffs total, joining Trinity ISD Hawkins ISD Midland ISD and the City of Beeville as the others. Hearings are planned for late June or early July, likely in Dallas.
Kansas City report notes Mother Goose remains a top seller in Hallmark pop up books alongside Walt Disney World Raggedy Ann and the Daffy Taffy Pull. The original Mother Goose was a fictional narrator in Perrault tales published in 1697 under the name of his child.
