Area youths to attend Boys State convention at University of Texas
Sixty four area high school boys will leave the South Plains by bus at 7 a.m. to attend the American Legion Boys State Convention at the University of Texas in Austin. The gathering teaches state government processes with emphasis on citizenship duties and features a mock political race electing a governor and other officials. About 750 delegates are expected to participate from across the state.

University Avenue between 18th and 22nd Streets will close at 7 a.m. Monday for paving work to widen the avenue. Officials expect completion in about two weeks. Northbound traffic will divert to Avenues X or Boston. southbound drivers must turn right on 19th to Boston and then left on Boston.

70 Autos Bring 1597 At Sale
The city auctioned 70 abandoned cars Friday at the city warehouse parking lot on Municipal Drive. Total receipts were 1597.50 with a low bid of 5 for a 1960 Dodge and a high of 270 for a 1963 Chevrolet station wagon. Cars sold as is and subject to liens.
