Paratrooper's Death Prompts Army Ban On Off-Duty Initiation Parties
A coroner's inquest into the April death of paratrooper Kcheméarte, one of 23 blasters who completed airborne training at Fort Bragg, led to orders prohibiting initiation parties by Army commanders. General Harold K Johnson and Secretary Stanley R Resor condemned heavy drinking and over-indulgence. The six man jury found no one to blame. Lt. Joseph Patrick O'Connorly testified for the 520th Artillery, 82nd Airborne Division.
