Grenada Beating Trial Details Desegregation Conflict

In Grenada Mississippi a federal trial involves eight white men accused of threatening and beating Negro students during desegregation protests. Witnesses describe attacks on 17 year old Pointexter Harvie outside John Rundle High School and on other youths. Donald Wayne Bain denies kicking Harvie though officers report otherwise. Harvie spent four days hospitalized, and the case faces a contested jury trial under a desegregation order with potential penalties up to one year in prison and a $1000 fine.
