Monterey High School graduate Olivia Hernandez has been named recipient of the $2,000 Hiram Parks Scholarship to Texas Tech. Hernandez plans to become a Spanish teacher and will enroll in Tech this fall. The Parks scholarship, established in 1945 by Mr. and Mrs. Hiram Parks, is awarded to a student of Mexican descent from Panhandle or South Plains high schools, based on character leadership and records. Hernandez will receive $500 per year for four years, contingent on maintaining good grades.
