A Dallas bank robber was shot dead as rumors of clandestine Viet Nam talks surfaced. The report notes the incident alongside a wide Saturday paper layout mentioning politics, industry, and social topics across sections A and B.
Harriman arrived in Moscow and indicated no Viet Nam messages, while Asian sources and Soviet officials signaled ongoing secret diplomacy. An air force radar plane with 19 aboard crashed 85 miles northeast of Nantucket Island. Three survivors were rescued and transported to the carrier Wasp. West German ships joined U.S. forces in a search as fog and poor visibility limited operations. Bodies of the dead crewmen were recovered as a board of inquiry opened to investigate the crash.

Cecil F Ab bee 38 of Eugene Oregon opened fire inside the Texas Bank & Trust in Dallas. He shot two guards before being fatally wounded outside the main vault. Guards W A Johnson and George Cox were critically wounded and underwent surgery. The incident occurred as customers stood nearby and the robber asked who would show him to the vault.
Air Force says no evidence of unexplained activity from a string of saucer reports in Portugal, the South Pole, Japan and Latin America. NIEA official Richard Hall notes a rise in sightings since 1957 while urging pattern recognition amid ongoing controversy.
A hitchhiker forced a Lewistown area bank driver into the Thomp sontown branch of the Russell National Bank. He then took about $9,800 after firing a gun and forcing 11 people into a vault. The suspect, a 28 year old, fled in the victim’s car which was later found abandoned.
