In Lubbock the J. K. Caraway Ranch relics, a windmill near a historic well and a mulberry planted in 1892, will be kept as landmarks at a future Winchester Square Shopping Center. The windmill and tree sit on Caraway family land now reduced to 11 acres after decades of ownership.
A bomb exploded on the lower level of Michigan Avenue near the Wrigley Building Sunday night, damaging two cars and shattering several windows. It is the third blast in four days in Chicago's Loop, and the second in under 24 hours.
A lone masked gunman shot the postmaster and robbed the Dumpville post office and general store of about $200. The couple, the town's sole residents, were awakened about 1 30 a.m. by a light in their bedroom. The gunman bound the postmaster and forced the wife to open the safe, then fled with cash and two rifles as border and sheriff units blocked routes. The postmaster E P Bradford, 67, was hospitalized with a bullet wound above the ankle.
In Bogalusa Louisiana a white march bearing Confederate flags and a silent six abreast Negro parade passed with heavy state trooper protection. J B Stoner led whites as James Farmer directed the Negro march in a tense day of demonstrations.
