Odessa 10 year old Paul Williams son of Mr and Mrs Winston Williams died Saturday from injuries after a playmate struck him in the head with a rock. He had been admitted to a hospital Thursday.
Automakers led by General Motors Ford and American Motors will testify before a Senate subcommittee chaired by Sen. Abraham Ribicoff about alleged shortcomings in auto safety. Chrysler will send two vice presidents. hearings run Tuesday through Friday with Ford GM AMC and Chrysler outlining safety measures including GSA mandated items.
Investigators say an explosion in the rear lavatory area likely caused Thursday’s crash of a Canadian Pacific Airlines DC6B, killing 52 aboard. The left lavatory floor and fuselage were blown out with rivets sheared. witnesses heard a blast and the plane split apart en route from Vancouver to Whitehorse.
In Toronto a 1500 pound Kodiak outside Riverdale Zoo was shot by Tefik Kari Hysolli 33 who police say believed bears would take over the world. About a dozen shots felled the bear in front of spectators. He faces a possession of a dangerous weapon charge and told officers he had a fixation on bears.
OHNSON CITY The Texas White House announced President Johnson accepted the resignations of Eugene M. Zuckert as secretary of the Air Force and Carl Rowan as director of the U S Information Agency. Zuckert’s resignation becomes effective Sept 30 after serving since 1961. Rowan will stay on until a successor is chosen as he plans to return to journalism.
