Cotton yield outlook slips below earlier goals for 1968

USDA planting reports show nationwide cotton acreage at 11.051 million, 17 percent above last year but far under the 1962-66 average. With abandonment high and weather uncertain, projections range from 11 to 13 million bales, depending on yields up to 600 pounds per acre and future acreage losses. Weather will largely determine the final crop this year.
