Reagan Unrattled by Firebombs Blamed on Hooliganism

Gov. Ronald Reagan blamed hooliganism for a Tuesday night attempt to firebomb his Sacramento home. No injuries were reported as two suspects fled. Secret Service agents fired a warning shot and pursued them. Homemade bombs contained liquid fuel and rag wicks.

Sales Levy Costs Texas Cities More Than Expected

Texas Municipal League reports local option sales tax in 277 cities raises residents up to $12 yearly beyond estimates. Nacogdoches led per capita receipts with $58,835 first quarter. Lubbock, starting April 1, not yet eligible for first quarter benefits. some cities may cut property taxes in response.

Snyder Chamber Names Manager

Karl C. Manhorter, longtime Snyder community development director, is named the Chamber of Commerce manager. The post had been vacant after Gene Merrifield’s resignation. Manhorter will also serve as industrial consultant and will focus on developing the area’s industry with the chamber and Scurry County Industrial Development Corp.
