Congress faces a year of limited action despite major bills
The 90th Congress has enacted housing anti discrimination, raised taxes by 10 percent, and banned interstate and mail gun sales while broader civil rights and gun control measures face uncertain futures. Additional items include credit disclosures, confession rulings, court ordered wiretaps, and secret service protection for presidential contenders. With adjournment near, leaders doubt further major legislation before August, though refinancing for hunger, poultry, veteran compensation, drug controls, and housing for the poor remains in progress.
