Viet Cong Flags Displayed Booby Trapped in Saigon

In Saigon, three National Liberation Front banners were unfurled including a blue and red flag with a yellow star near U.S. ambassador Bunker’s residence. Police report the two booby-trapped flags and two suspected Viet Cong arrested. Elsewhere Viet Cong shelled training centers and a provincial capital as Saigon remained quiet.

Rockets found in tunnel complex near Saigon amid allied gains

U S 1st Infantry Division troops probing a booby trapped tunnel 30 miles northwest of Saigon discovered a large cache of rockets for possible terror use. Fifty pound 107mm Red Chinese rockets, plus 35 found earlier, were uncovered along with 82mm mortar rounds and 24 rocket grenades. South Vietnamese forces seized Soviet made 122mm rockets and related launchers 18 miles northwest of Saigon as leanings toward stabilizing the area grew.

Chief Justice Earl Warren said he would remain if the Senate blocks Abe Fortas's confirmation, stressing personal timing and oath duties. He intends Fortas to be approved and not tied to politics, while defending President Johnson’s authority to appoint a successor before a new president takes office.

Texas Holiday Toll Rises With Drownings And Fatalities

A late holiday toll shows 15 traffic deaths, 16 drownings, 11 gunfire deaths and two misc violence deaths, totaling 44. Viet Cong ambush on Highway 15 near Saigon injures five entertainers

Five people, four believed American entertainers and a U S Army sergeant, were ambushed by Viet Cong while driving a jeep about 18 miles east of Saigon. Two entertainers were killed, three wounded and evacuated to Long Binh. Royal Thai forces were sent to the scene as authorities conceal names.
