Nightwear redesign urged to curb burn deaths
Patricia McCormack reports experts urge flame resistant sleepwear for all nightwear in the United States citing a high toll from fires. Professor James McChurch and Herman Glaser of ATLA call for stricter rules beyond the 1954 act with England already requiring flameproof fabrics. They warn that cotton nightgowns ignite easily and can turn wearers into a torch, urging front button designs and widespread flame retardancy to cut fatalities and injuries, especially among children.
