Silica Found Higher In Limpet Teeth
Pasadena scientist Dr. Heinz Lowenstam of Caltech reports that limpets use silica in their teeth and tongue as a storage and growth system. He notes silica metabolism may be vital in bone formation and cell processes, with the limpet’s digestive system circulating silica from excreta to renew hard tooth material.
