Calls Made For U S Probe On Cuban Missiles

Senate leader Dirksen said he has information supporting a GOP congressman's claim that Soviet offensive missiles remain hidden in Cuba despite official denials. He cited a 88 missile figure and said the data came from memoranda sent from Cuba by non refugees. The Defense Department rejected the charges as without credible evidence.

Senate approves women's rights amendment in Texas

Senate passage of a women’s rights amendment by Sen. Bill Moore 26 to 5 marks a step toward legal neutrality as to sex. The measure would remove legal blocks against women but raises fears of more lawsuits and changes to alimony laws. it must pass the House and win voter approval.

Texas Senate panel backs poll tax repeal plan

The Senate Constitutional Amendments Committee approved the Kazen proposal to abolish the Texas poll tax and sent it to the Senate floor for debate. Two dissenters opposed final passage. If approved by voters in 1964, the change would take effect February 1, 1965, still requiring payment of the tax for this year. In the House a separate panel considered freezing the state sales tax at 2 percent.

Chief Alley Restructures City Police Department

Avalanche Journal reports a police department reorganization by Chief J T Alley Jr. The shift captain Olin J Kirk becomes night chief, with Jack Thomas heading the patrol division. Dunn Barred From Reeves County Hospital Again

Pecos Texas Dr John Paul Dunn was barred for a second time from practicing at Reeves County Memorial Hospital after the board cited disruption of personnel and procedures. Dunn and attorney plan an injunction to contest the decision. he may still treat existing patients. The board made the unanimous move Monday after a prior Jan 2 notice barring him from hospital staff.

Beira Air Crash Kills Six of Eight Aboard

Two Fugitives Nabbed By Amarillo Police

Amarillo police surrounded a Western Union office Tuesday night and captured two men who escaped from a Neosho Missouri jail Sunday night. Leroy Carpenter 26 of Sarcoxie Missouri and Joseph W Thompson 31 of Fer e Missouri were identified. Both charged with armed robbery. Police said a tip from an informer in Joplin led to the arrest as they had been sought in Missouri Oklahoma Kansas and Texas since the escape.
