The girl was not questioned.
Gunfire at a Berlin wall checkpoint killed one man and wounded another during an apparent West German car attempt to breach barriers with refugees. Four in the car were hit as East German guards fired. the driver Heinz Schoenberger, 27, survived to reach West Berlin.
Avalanche Journal reports a holiday weekend gun violence spree in Lubbock with four wounded and two men killed. Raul Rios age 37 and Willie Flores died after shootings at the El Patio Club on the Tohoka Highway. Dan Ramos and James Shelby were hospitalized with injuries and stable conditions.
About 4,932 Arab Christians from Israel were allowed to visit relatives in Jordan on Christmas Day and were required to return to the Israeli side by Sunday night.
A coalition of student governments from most New Mexico colleges aims to influence state policy. The New Mexico Association of College Student Governments plans a March briefing with state officials on legislative finance and a $40 million college bond issue. John Salazar, former UNM student body president, initiated the group.
