Blizzards hit the area as a cold front moved through the Northwest. Winds up to 190 mph lashed coastal regions while a warming trend began inland. The weather disrupted air travel with fog and low visibility, and two barges drifted ashore off Oregon.
A 500 strong Communist battalion attacked Bu Rang outpost six miles from the Cambodian border at 1 am. U S Marines and South Korean forces fought near Qui Nhon City and Da Nang. In heavy action Marines killed 56 Viet Cong and captured equipment, while Korean units reported 36 killed and 10 tons of rice seized. Air strikes paused after Christmas cease-fire.
