UN Jets Strafe Katanga Base In 20 Minute Raid
United Nations jets destroyed four Katangese planes at Kolwezi Airfield in a 20 minute bombing and strafing attack. The strike, announced from Leopoldville, left Katanga largely airless and gave UN forces air superiority over the secessionist province as ground fighting intensified near Elizabethville and Jadotville. A Katangese Fouga jet reportedly took off but landed near Luluabourg, while UN attempts on Jadotville were hindered by clouds. Additional UN transports and ground forces aided operations, and a damaged railway bridge at Lufira cut the Elisabethville Jadotville rail link used by Katanga.

City Police Probe Five Break-Ins Including Two Schools
City police investigated five break-ins and related thefts and vandalism across the area. Overton Elementary suffered a pried door to the principal’s office and a missing typewriter, with a vending machine damaged but cash unreported. Dunbar High School entries appeared from the roof with a forced library door. no property reported missing. Other thefts included hub caps from several cars, broken car windows from pellet fire incidents on 34th Street, and looted vending and drink machines at local businesses.

Cuban refugee family seeks freedom for children in Lubbock
A Cuban couple and their four children arrived in Lubbock seeking religious and educational liberty denied in Castro's Cuba.
