Storm damages cotton as South Plains receives rains
A storm system soaked the South Plains Saturday and Saturday night, delivering up to two inches of moisture in parts from Hoackey County through Lubbock to Floydada. Hail damaged cotton in isolated areas near Idalou and northwest of Idalou, with up to 60 percent of a quarter section harmed. Measurements varied, with McCoy Community reports near two inches, and areas around Lubbock recording .63 inch downtown and other totals from .20 to .75 inch. Heavy showers were spotty, aiding irrigated crops more than dry land. The storm moved northeast to Petersburg and Lorenzo, bringing up to two inches in the McCoy area and leaving one-half inch at Petersburg and Lorenzo.
