House Panel Expands Minimum Wage To Farm Workers
The House Education and Labor Committee moved to apply the federal minimum wage of $1.15 to about 13 million agricultural workers including sharecroppers and migratory laborers, extending coverage beyond the current 29.6 million. President Johnson urged broader extension with little opposition, as the full committee planned to vote on remaining categories and a future raise from $1.25 to $1.75 for most workers.
