Dedication to M E O Nine Daughters Named Owen

Mrs. T F Owen Wood recalls her father’s eight daughters all sharing the Owen surname with middle initials forming M E O resulting in nationwide attention via a Beano style feature. The Lubbock resident born in 1943 is the youngest of eleven siblings and notes siblings did not follow the pattern. Five Owen children survive, including three daughters aged around fifty.

West Texas Water Institute Tackles NAWAPA Plan

At Texas Tech the West Texas Water Institute gathered lawmakers and experts to discuss a federal water plan. Sen. Frank Moss and Reps. George Mahon Walther Rogers Laurence Burton and Joe Kilgore spoke on NAWAPA to move Alaska Yukon and British Columbia water to Great Lakes regions and the western US. Silent Schooner Te Vega Reaches Fiji Port

Stanford University reports its 135 foot ebent schooner Te Vega reached Suva Fiji after eight days without radio messages since April 18. Port health officials cleared the ship after a routine quarantine. university spokesman blamed possible damage to the ship's dip. Several persons were aboard.

Area Gets Light Rainfall Across West Texas Region

A Sunday night rain event dropped varying amounts across the area from 11:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The U S Weather Bureau station in Lubbock reported 0.14 inches at the municipal airport while nearby Wheelock Elementary School noted 0.25 inches. Lamesa reported 0.18 inches and Spur 0.33 inches with Olton at 0.70 inches. Farmers seek more beneficial rain though outlook offers little promise.
