Severe weather swept West Texas with three tornadoes near St Blanca and hail as large as three quarters of an inch. Storms moved across the South Plains dumping moisture on Big Spring Stanton Crosbyton and Snyder while drizzle fell at several towns. Temperatures cooled with 65 in Lubbock and a high near 70 expected.

California highway sniper 16 kills motorists then shoots self
Santa Maria Calif a 16 year old sniper killed two motorists on U S 101 and wounded twelve others before a one hour gun battle with officers ended with his suicide. Among the wounded were a five year old boy and three other family members. The teen Michael Andrew Clark fled Long Beach after a family argument.

Te Vega missing as Pacific search begins
Stanford University reports its 135 foot research schooner Te Vega has been out of radio contact for about a week. American and British naval units in the South Pacific have started a search with private planes. The ship carried 31 tons and 12 graduate students, a doctor, the captain, and 14 crew. Last heard leaving Nikoro in the Santa Cruz group on April 18. The associate provost said they are taking precautions. Tikopia could be the ship’s likely safe refuge en route to Suva, Fiji.

Seven Hurt In City Wrecks Across South Plains
Multiple accidents Sunday across the South Plains left two men dead and twelve injured. Boroughs, a Snyder area resident, died when his car left Highway 350 and overturned near Snyder. Orriaga, 53, of Petersburg, died in a head on crash five miles north of Slaton on Highway 400, injuring five others.
