Neutral Laotian Forces Face Red Drive in Plaine des Jarres

Pro Communist Pathet Lao forces, about 10 000 strong, launched a Friday offensive to crush 5 000 neutralist troops surrounded in the Plaine des Jarres. Phouma urged Britain and Saint to aid, while Kennedy denied pledging invasion of Cuba to exiles.

Kennedy denies invasion pledge to Cuban exiles

President Kennedy told editors that no promise to invade Cuba was ever made to Cuban exiles and that U S policy must be guided from Washington. He said time will see Cuba free again with the United States playing a major role, but blocked a blockade or invasion for now. Exile leader Miro Cardona’s charges were dismissed as a distortion of history. The United Nations should act with restraint.

Illinois Town Hit in Violent Storm Kills One

An elderly woman died and about 25 people were injured when violent winds hit St Francisville Illinois. Residents reported clouds boiling and trees uprooted with plate glass windows shattered. Rainfall was reported near half an inch at a local station while other areas logged smaller amounts. Temperatures in nearby sites rose into the 90s ahead of the weather front.

Debris Found From Nuclear Sub Disaster Off New England

U S Navy reports additional debris located about 220 miles off the New England coast where the nuclear submarine Atlantis met its fatal plunge on April 10. The Navy did not identify the debris but said it would be cataloged as part of the ongoing recovery.

Woman Pair Seized In Slaying At About 3 A.M.

Police report two women were seized for questioning after a fatal slaying occurring around 3 a.m. Investigators recovered evidence at the scene and have not released names or exact charges pending further inquiry.

Love Field Plane Crash Kills Two Men

Two men died when their light single engine Beechcraft Bonanza crashed at Love Field. The victims were J. Wright Jr. 37 of Fan Worth and Russell J. Koontz Jr. 28, new Dallas resident from Austin. Witnesses said the plane followed a jet approaching to land and turbulence contributed to the crash.
