At St John’s Hospital surgeons performed laminectomy and spinal drainage. two vertebrae were badly fractured and recovery remains doubtful.
At the Sixth regiment annual rifle meet in Walnut Hill Boston on September 27 Captain Warren E. Sweetser led Company H to smash all 10 shot at 200 yards records and push the regimental total to 4557 points from last year’s 3960. Team scores named Wakefield 429 Stoneham 420 Lowell 417 Concord 397 Boston 389 Fitchburg 384.

The program included songs dances recitations waltzes and a Spanish dance performed by Elizabeth Reilly Inez Turnbull Patricia Hoole Florence Fairburn and others. A souvenir cup and saucer was presented to Mary Belle Reilly club president after the presentation speech by Inez Turnbull.
The central street canal bridge long criticized for its bad condition needs repairs. Supt. Fowler asks Manager Sullivan to fix rail ruts. Sullivan says Locks and Canals won’t permit. Fowler insists action is required, but no steps have been taken yet.
Senator Frederick W. Dallinger was unanimously nominated by acclamation for a third term at the Second Middlesex Republican Senatorial convention in Cambridge. Twenty seven delegates were present. Randolph C. Surbridge was unanimously reelected to the state central committee, with ward committee chairmen forming the senatorial district committee.
Monday afternoon a loose horse pulled by a Merchants' Coupon Co wagon dashed along Central street scattering people. It collided at Tower's corner with a Democrat wagon and toppled a clerk from F. H. Butter's firm. Another wagon's horse ran onto the sidewalk. No injuries. only wagon damage reported.
Rev J S Colby, formerly connected with Lowell press, preached his farewell sermon at Marlboro New Hampshire last Sunday after four and a half years of service. Parishioners gave him a warm reception Monday night and he then traveled to Andover to aid the seminary for several months while filling occasional church assignments. His youngest daughter Miss Eugenie Colby is staying with Mrs F B Burtt of Port Hill avenue.
Funeral services were held for John Dutton at his son's residence with Rev. W. A. Morang officiating. The remains were sent to Dexter, Maine for interment. George Dunn’s funeral from St. Patrick's Church featured Rev. Fr. Burke as celebrant and a large floral tribute list. Burial followed at the Catholic cemetery with bearers including James Calnin and John Currier.

The 22nd anniversary of the Theodore Edson Orphan Age founded by Dr Id son, rector of St Anne's church, will be celebrated on Wednesday September 29. The home at 18 Anne Street will be open to visitors from 3 to 5 p.m. At 3 30 there will be exercises by the children. All are invited.
Daniel S. Gray and his wife honored their 53 years of marriage at 106 Liberty Street with a 5 to 9 pm reception and supper. The couple, aged 82 and 78, appeared hale and hearty among relatives and close friends who enjoyed song and sociability.

In Boston on Sept 27 Judge Colt of the United States Circuit Court granted the motion of the New Bedford Manufacturing company case to deliver its property and assets to Walter Clifford and George W Putnam assignees in insolvency appointed by Bristol county insolvency court. The move aims to implement a creditor favored reorganization plan. At the time of collapse last May the company owed about 680000 while assets were roughly half that.
Adams Sept 28 report President McKinley and party visited Williams College this afternoon. President Carter joined the party for lunch at the Plunkett residence. Mrs McKinley is recovering from her cold.

Arnold Sherman a reclusive resident of West Kingston R1 was found dead in his hut Monday morning. He lived alone for 25 years and for over a decade did not permit entry to his dwelling. The medical examiner ruled natural causes as the cause of death.
